Who is George A. Carlson?
Dr. George Carlson, Director and Senior Scientist at McLaughlin Research Institute, applies his expertise in mouse genetics to understanding and modeling human neurodegenerative disease. He and his collaborators have made major contributions to understanding genetic susceptibility to prion disease and have developed transgenic mice that develop Alzheimer-disease like pathology and behavioral abnormalities. Dr. Carlson recently established a chemical mutagenesis program that will be expanded to detect genes active in pathways involved in neurological diseases and hearing loss.
