George Talbot

Who was George Talbot?

George Talbot was an English entomologist who specialised in butterflies.

Talbot was first employed by the wealthy amateur butterfly collector Herbert Adams, then by the insect dealer William Frederick Henry Rosenberg and then as curator of Joicey's collection at the Hill Museum. He wrote several scientific papers with Joicey. During the First World War he worked with Authur Bacot at the Lister Institute on trench fever and typhus diseases carried by lice. After Joicey's death in 1932 he worked for the British Pest Infestation Division of the Ministry of Health.

George Talbot wrote over 150 papers many of them generic revisions in the Bulletin of the Hill Museum and his The Fauna of British India, Including Ceylon and Burma series. His best known works are his monograph on Delias and the three Pieridae parts of Lepidopterum Catalogus published by Wilhelm Junk.
