Who was Gustave Thibon?
Gustave Thibon was a French philosopher, born in Saint-Marcel d'Ardèche.
Although he left school at the age of thirteen, he loved poetry very early, especially Victor Hugo and the Parnasse. He was very impressed by the First World War, which led him to hate patriotism and democracy. the young Gustave Thibon travelled to London and to Italy. He did his military service in North Africa, then returned to his village at the age of 23.
During the Second World War he hosted the philosopher Simone Weil at his farm; he published S. Weil's work La Pesanteur et la grâce in 1947.
