Who is Jean Gribomont?
Jean Gribomont was a Benedictine scholar who professed as monk of the Abbey of Clervaux in 1939. He is noted for a vast range of publications in French covering the origins and history of ascetic currents and monasticism particularly, although not only, in the Syriac-speaking and eastern Asia Minor context of the fourth and fifth centuries of the common era. These include a major work and article on St. Basil, three encyclopaedia entries on Eustathius of Sebaste, studies of Messalianism, work in the Syriac domain and also of later Latin monasticism.
