Who is John Hughes?
Dr. Edgar John Hughes is a British diplomat, the former British Ambassador to Argentina.
Born in South Wales, Hughes went to the London School of Economics. He went on to receive his masters degree from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania and his PhD from Pembroke College, Cambridge.
Hughes joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1973, and has since specialised primarily in American affairs, serving in Santiago, Chile; in Washington, D.C., in the United States; and in Oslo, Norway.
In 2000, Hughes was appointed HM Ambassador to Caracas, where he served until 2003. He was then appointed HM Ambassador to Buenos Aires in 2004, and in 2005 as concurrent non-resident HM Ambassador to AsunciĆ³n.
Hughes is married to Lynne Evans, by whom he has two children, Owain and Alexander.
