Who was Benedict of Alignan?

The Blessed Benedict of Alignan was Benedictine abbot of NĂ´tre Dame de la Grasse and Bishop of Marseille.

He twice visited Palestine, where he helped the Knights Templar build the great castle of Safet.

He founded a short-lived order, the Brothers of the Virgin, which was suppressed by the Council of Lyon, and died a Franciscan. His writings include a letter to Pope Innocent IV, De constructione Castri Saphet, and De Summa Trinitate et Fide Catholica in Decretalibus.
