Who was Raymond Allchin?

Frank Raymond Allchin FBA was an archaeologist who specialized in South Asian archaeology. He was born in Harrow, London, and studied at the Regent Street Polytechnic. He first visited India in 1944 whilst serving with the army in the Royal Corps of Signals, and from then on his interest in the area grew. Between 1954 and 1959 he taught South Asian Archaeology in the School of Oriental and African Studies in London and after that spent 30 years teaching at Churchill College, Cambridge. He has published many works, some co-authored with his wife Bridget Allchin.
