Who was Fortunato Mizzi?
Fortunato Mizzi was the founder of the Anti-Reform Party and also the one who started the process which eventually led to Malta's independence. The Anti-Reform Party was the forerunner of the Nationalist Party in Malta.
He was a member of the Pro-Italian Maltese community and showed in his political activity strong support toward Italy's Risorgimento and the official use of the Italian language in Malta.
Fortunato Mizzi married Maria Sofia Fogliero de Luna. They had a son by the name of Enrico who later became Prime Minister of Malta.
A bust of Fortunato Mizzi can be seen in the Pincio in Rome.
