George Cruickshank

Who is George Cruickshank?

The Rt Rev George Craig Cruikshank was the 7th Anglican Bishop of Waiapu from 1945 to 1946.

He was born in 1881 and educated at Keble College, Oxford. He was ordained in 1908 and embarked on his ecclesiastical career with a curacy at St Hilda, Darlington. After this he was Vicar of Whangarei during which time he was a Chaplain to the first New Zealand Expeditionary Force. From 1923 to 1932 he was Vicar of Remuera. In that year he became Dean of Dunedin, a post he held until his elevation to the Episcopate.
