Who was George Cromer?
George Cromer was Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland in the reign of Henry VIII of England, from 1521/2.
He was English by birth, but little is known about his family. Caught up in Henry's reformation of the Church of England, he was deprived of his see, Armagh. He in fact continued in place as archbishop, despite suspicion from Henry and also suspension by the Pope, for alleged heresy.
He was Lord Chancellor of Ireland in 1531, as a placeman of Garrett, 9th Earl of Kildare
