Who was George D. Fowler?
George D. Fowler was a Pennsylvania Railroad official who was born in Alexandria, Virginia. He was closely related to George Washington and was a brother-in-law of Fitzhugh Lee. He was considered an authority on the subject of golf. Fowler was in the field of signal and was President of the American Society of Signal Engineers at the time of his death. He died at his home at the Rittenhouse Club in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1909. His sudden death was the result of heart disease.
