Who is George Shire?
George Shire is a Zimbabwean independent radical scholar, political analyst, curator and cultural critic who lives in London in the United Kingdom.
He has appeared in the UK media offering his personal opinion on the causes of the political and economic situation in Zimbabwe. In these articles he blames Britain for Zimbabwe's economic situation and defends the Zimbabwean land reform process.
He describes himself as a Pan-Africanist,following in the footsteps of Franz Fanon and Amilcar Cabral, and sympathetic to the political institutions that grew out of the anti-colonial struggles and wars of liberation in Southern Africa. An avid transdisciplinarian who draws heavily on the work of Derrida;Spivak;Hall;Said;Marx;Freud;Lacan;Mbembe and Gilroy to name a few.
He has written numerous articles that have appeared in the state sponsored Herald newspaper, where he has expressed support for ZANU's policies and professed his support of Robert Mugabe's regime
He was also seen at a pro-Mugabe rally held in Lisbon at the EU-Africa summit in 2007.
In the United Kingdom he is closely linked to "Soundings" - the journal of culture and politics.
