Who was Gerard O'Sullivan?
Gerard O'Sullivan was an Irish footballer in the 1930s.
Originally with Strandville, he made just 3 first team appearances for Bohemians before tragedy struck. He made his debut for Bohs in a FAI Cup tie against Edenville on February 7 and kept his place for Bohs league encounter at Shelbourne Park a week later. On April 4, 1931, he started in the inside-left position in a League of Ireland Shield match against Bray Unknowns. After 30 minutes of the match, O'Sullivan suffered a head injury but came back on until he this time hurt his leg. He went home as normal after the game but became ill later that evening and was taken to Jervis Street Hospital where he lost consciousness. He died the next morning on April 5.
It was the only fatal accident in Bohemians long history.
