Who is Guda?
Guda was a 12th-century nun and illuminator. She created a self-portrait in an initial letter in a Homeliary. Along with her self-portrait, she wrote an inscription, "Guda, a sinner, wrote and painted this book."
Scholars today credit Nun Guda with being one of the first women in western civilization to create a signed, self-portrait.
