Who is Guillermo Cañas?
Guillermo Ignacio Cañas, often referred to as Willy Cañas, is a retired Argentine professional tennis player. He was born in Argentina's capital, Buenos Aires, and named after Argentine tennis star Guillermo Vilas. His career-high singles ranking was World No. 8, achieved in June 2005. Cañas was the coach of Ernests Gulbis from July 2011 until May 2012.
He now runs his own tennis academy along with former tour pros Martín García, and Gustavo Oribe.
After being suspended in August 2005, Cañas returned to the circuit on September 2006 at the challenger of Belém, Brazil.
Cañas holds a record of 5 victories and 2 defeats in Davis Cup matches.
