Who is Guillermo Moreno García?
Guillermo Moreno Garcia is a Dominican lawyer and politician.
Moreno served as the District Attorney for the Distrito Nacional from 1996 to 1997, during Leonel Fernández's first term as president. In the 2008 elections, Moreno was the presidential candidate for the leftist Movement for Independence, Unity and Change, receiving 0.44% of the vote. In 2009, Moreno broke away from his prior party and created his own left-wing party called "Alianza Pais". Moreno has announced his intention to stand in the 2012 election. His party has three stated priorities: increasing Dominican economic productivity; ensuring access to basic needs such as water, education, and healthcare; and strengthening democracy and transparency.
Guillermo Moreno is the son of Dominican poet Juan Isidro Moreno, and Mercedes Garcia Espinal, being the first child of seven. He is the grandson of poet Domingo Moreno Jimenez. Guillermo Moreno is related to Manuel Jimenez and Juan Isidro Jimenez, both former Dominican presidents.
