Who was Gustav Freij?
Karl Gustav Herbert Freij was a Swedish wrestler who competed in the 1948 Summer Olympics, in the 1952 Summer Olympics, and in the 1960 Summer Olympics.
He was born in Silvåkra and died in Malmö.
Freij was world lightweight Greco-Roman wrestling bronze medalist at the 1955 World Wrestling Championships in Karlsruhe, behind gold medalist Grigory Gamarnik of the USSR and silver medalist Kyösti Lehtonen of Finland.
In 1948 he won the gold medal in the Greco-Roman lightweight competition. Four years later he won the silver medal in the same event. He ended his Olympic career in 1960 with a bronze medal in the Greco-Roman lightweight competition again.
