Who was Jean Boiteux?

Jean Boiteux was a French swimmer and Olympic champion.

He was born in Marseilles. His mother, Bibienne Pellegry, swam for France at the 1924 and 1924 Olympics.

He competed at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki, where he received a gold medal in 400 m freestyle. He received a bronze medal in 4 x 200 m freestyle relay with the French team.

Boiteux was the first person from France to win an Olympic gold medal in Swimming. The Jean-Boiteux Grand Prix swimming meet in Bordeaux, was started by him in 1973 and is now name after him.
