Who is Jean Nkodo Ferouze Darouiche?
Djo Ferouze Darouiche was born 1954 in akono, south of Jaunde/cameroon, as a son of a kurdish syrian and a daughter from the etenga clan. already as a child djo was fascinated by the magic of music and started to learn to play the guitar. at the age of 15 his father sent him to beirut/lebanon to study in a school with 2000 pupils. he was the only black one. in 1972 when the political situation deteriorated, djo went back to cameroon where he started with his musical career in his own band we the people. for two years they made intensive live-experience playing all over the country. after this time they travelled through a lot of european countries and they performed e.g. in damaskus, paris, london, munich, kopenhagen and last but not least on a cruiseship across the pacific. the intension of these trips wasnt a fast, personel success - no, he just wanted to experience other musicans and styles from all over the world. this is how djos music becomes enriched with different modern and traditionel music influences and he returned to his african root on a cosmopolitan level. this is the magical indentity that belongs to the sound of voodoogang up to today.
