Who was Jens Matzen?

Ingwer Matzen was a German naval officer and Schnellboot commander and recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross in World War II. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership.

In 1955 he joined the post-war Bundesmarine where he held the positions of the first Commander 1. Fast Patrol Boat Squadron and Commander Fast Patrol Boat Command. Thus he contributed to rebuilding the German Schnellboot force. Finally, he served as Inspizient der Marinewaffen in the Marineamt. He retired as a Kapitän zur See.
