Who was Jeronimus Cornelisz?
Jeronimus Cornelisz was a Frisian apothecary and Dutch East India Company merchant. In June 1629 he led one of the bloodiest mutinies in history after the merchant ship Batavia was wrecked in the Houtman Abrolhos, a chain of coral islands off the west coast of Australia.
