Who was Julius Brenchley?

Described as “churchman, intrepid traveller, omnivorous collector and philanthropist”, Brenchley is best known to Pacific scholars for his scientifically useful work, Jottings during the cruise of H.M.S. ‘Curacoa’ among the South Sea Islands in 1865 (London 1987) and his large collection of ethnographic and natural history objects in the Maidstone and British Museums.
