Who was Justin Wilson?
Justin Boyd Wilson was a British racing driver who competed in the IndyCar Series for Andretti Autosport. He competed in the Champ Car series from 2004–07, scoring four wins. He competed in Formula One in the 2003 season with Minardi and Jaguar and was the winner of the 2001 International Formula 3000 championship.
Wilson died following an incident at the Pocono Raceway during a race in 2015, in which flying debris made direct contact with his helmet at high velocity, resulting in blunt force head trauma.
In the ensuing years, Indy cars have begun using a closed-cockpit fabrication on all competition cars with the intention of thwarting such freak occurrences.
