Who is Ludmila Vassilyeva?
Ludmila Vassilyeva is a Russian scholar at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow. She graduated from Moscow State University and got Ph.D. degree in 1987. She also teaches Urdu literature at Moscow University and Russian State University for the Humanities. She is an expert of Urdu and Hindi literature and has translated Urdu poets, like Ghalib and Faiz Ahmed Faiz into Russian. She often visits Pakistan, India and other countries where Urdu is spoken and participates in conferences.
For her outstanding contribution to Urdu studies she was conferred Sitara-i-Imtiaz award from President of Pakistan.
