Who is Marcus Whelan?
Marcus Whelan was an Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood Football Club during the 1930s and 1940s.
He played in the midfield as a centreman and on occasions would be seen in defence. Whelan won the Brownlow Medal in 1939 and was also awarded Collingwood's best and fairest award, the Copeland Trophy. After fighting in World War II he returned to the Victorian Football League in 1946 and retired at the end of the 1947 season.
