Who is Mikael Åkerfeldt?
Lars Mikael Åkerfeldt is a Swedish musician who achieved fame as the lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter of progressive metal band Opeth as well as the former lead vocalist of death metal band Bloodbath. He was the vocalist and guitarist for the band Sörskogen, guitarist for the band Steel, and is part of the collaboration Storm Corrosion with Steven Wilson.
He is known for his progressive rock-influenced songwriting style and his frequent use of both clean baritone and growled vocals. On stage, he is notably interactive with audiences, frequently making the audiences laugh with his dry humour, and giving humorous anecdotes between songs.
Åkerfeldt was ranked 9th in the book The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists, No.42 out of 100 Greatest Heavy Metal Guitarists of All Time by Guitar World along with Peter Lindgren, and No.11 among "The Top 25 Modern Metal Guitarists" on MetalSucks.
