Who is Philip McGuigan?

Philip McGuigan is a Sinn Féin member of Ballymoney Borough Council in Northern Ireland and a former MLA. He was raised in Swatragh, County Londonderry.

A former student of Queens University, Belfast, Philip McGuigan is a full time Sinn Féin activist and sat on the party's Ard Chomhairle. He was elected to the Assembly in 2003 representing North Antrim.

McGuigan is a keen supporter of Irish culture and his four children are being educated through Irish medium schools. In his Gaelic football-playing days he won many honours including 2 All-Ireland Hogan Cup medals, numerous Ulster and County medals.

Philip McGuigan was elected to the Ballymoney Council in 2001, aged 27, with the highest vote of any of the 16 elected councillors. He is party whip for all the elected Assembly members in Sinn Féin.

He resides in Dunloy with his wife, Paula, and their four children.

He was elected in the assembly elections for North Antrim in 2003 but stood aside to let Daithi McKay contest the election on behalf of Sinn Féin in 2007.
