Sydney Emanuel Mudd I was Speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates and a United States House of Representative.
Born at Gallant Green, in Charles County, Maryland, Mudd attended Georgetown University and graduated from St. John's College of Annapolis, Maryland, in 1878. He studied law privately and also attended the law department of the University of Virginia at Charlottesville. He was admitted to the bar in 1880 and commenced practice.
