Who is Emmanuel Crescimbeni?
José Emmanuel Crescimbeni Barrantes is an American swimmer of Peruvian origin, who specialized in butterfly events. He is a single-time Olympian, and currently holds Peruvian records in the 100 and 200 m butterfly. While residing in the United States, Crescimbeni is a 2007 Florida High School state champion, and a member of the Florida Gators swimming and diving team under head coach Gregg Troy.
Crescimbeni represented his parents' homeland Peru at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where he competed in the men's 200 m butterfly. He posted a FINA B-standard entry time of 2:01.09 from the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil a year earlier. He participated in heat one against three other swimmers Nikša Roki of Croatia, Rehan Poncha of India, and Javier Hernández Maradiaga of Honduras. He raced to third place in a time of 2:02.13, edging out Hernandez by a tenth of a second. Crescimbeni failed to advance into the semifinals, as he placed forty-first overall in the prelims.
