Who is John Robinson?

John Sherman Robinson was an American track and field athlete, lawyer, judge, and Chief Justice of the Washington Supreme Court.

Sherman was born in Mansfield, Ohio, and attended the University of Michigan. While at Michigan, Sherman was a member of the track and field team. He ran the hurdles until sustaining an injury and then competed in the shot put. He was the captain of Michigan's track team as a senior and received his bachelor's degree from Michigan in 1903. After three years as a teacher in Michigan, Robinson enrolled in Columbia Law School in 1907 and received his law degree in 1910.

After receiving his law degree, Robinson moved to Seattle. He served as a member of the Washington Supreme Court from 1937 to 1951 and as the Chief Justice from 1941 to 1943.
