Who was Ludwig Sieber?
Swiss philologist, teacher and librarian. He studied classical philology and german literature in Basel, Göttingen and Berlin. After his return to Basel, he was teacher at the local Gymnasium, until he was appointed in 1871 Chief Librarian of the University Library.
