Who was Peter Atkinson?

Peter Atkinson was an English architect.

Atkinson was educated in his profession by his father, Peter Atkinson, whose business he took over. He built the bridge over the river Ouse, begun in 1810. For many years he had been a steward and surveyor to the corporation of York. In that city, Atkinson built the house of correction and prison. He erected many churches in the service of the church commissioners. During the last years of his life he resided abroad.
