Who is Simon fitz Alan?
Simon fitz Alan was a 12th-century noble who was the ancestor of the Boyds. Simon was the third son of the Breton knight, Alan fitz Flaad, feudal lord of Oswestry, by his spouse Aveline, daughter of Ernoulf de Hesdin. Simon followed his brother Walter fitz Alan into Scotland in the service of King David I. Simon witnessed Walter's foundation charter to the monastery of Paisley Abbey in 1160, in which he is designated as "frater Walterii, filii Alani, dapiferi".
He had a son Robert, who styled himself Boyt.
