Who is Gerardo Sofovich?

Gerardo Sofovich is an Argentine businessman, dramaturge, TV host, actor, comedian, scriptwriter, and film director.

He was the producer Polémica en el bar and La noche del Domingo, two of the most popular Argentine television programs of the 1970s and '80s. Sofovich also hosted A la manera de Sofovich and Sin Límite SMS, broadcast on Canal 9.

During the 1970s and 1980s he directed several picaresque films starring comedians Alberto Olmedo and Jorge Porcel. Though critically panned, these movies were quite successful in reaching a large audience.

As a businessman, he has backed major shows on Buenos Aires' Corrientes Avenue theaters.

He has a right-wing political orientation and is closely related to former Argentine President Carlos Saul Menem. He is an avid fan of Boca Juniors.

His late brother Hugo Sofovich had a similar career as a film director and theater impresario.
