Who is Jüri Tarmak?
Jüri Tarmak is a former Estonian athlete who competed mainly in the high jump and competed for the Soviet Union. He trained at Dynamo in Leningrad and studied at the Leningrad State University.
Tarmak began athletics in 1963 and became a member of the USSR National Team in 1970. He competed for the USSR in the 1972 Summer Olympics held in Munich, Germany in the high jump where he won the gold medal. He also won a silver medal behind István Major of Hungary at the 1971 European Championships, and a bronze medal behind István Major and his teammate Kęstutis Šapka at the 1972 European Championships.
Tarmak was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor.
