Nedko Butzev

Who is Nedko Butzev?

Nedko Butzev is a living visual artist. in the late 70s he studied art in High School of Arts in the city of Kazanlak with classmates Cvetan Krastev, Stefan Bojkov, Ilean Lalev, Yordan Parushev, Albena Mijailova, Chukich among many others. In 1989 he graduated with gold diploma from ISA now University of Arts in Cuba Havana and took part of the Cuban Art generation of the 80s with Segundo Planes, Carlos Cardenas, Tania Bruguera, Lazaro Saavedra, Agustin Bejarano, Elio Rodriguez, Tomas Esson, Angel Delgado. His art teachers at ISA were Consuelo Castaneda and Luis Muguel Valdez. During his years in Havana he took part of workshops and was student assistant for Shigeo Fukuda, William Heather, Mimmo Rotela, Joseph Kosuth, Robert Reishenberg among many others visiting artists in ISA and the serigraphy studio Rene Portocarrero founded by Aldo Menendez.

In 1989 he travel back to Bulgaria via Berlin, where he took participation in the demonstration ended with the Fall of the Berlin Wall. Back in Bulgaria in 1990 he became part of Young Artists Club and during the 90s took part of all important art projects of the group. In 1992 assisting the art curator Rachel Weiss he organized and participate in the first independent exhibition after 1944, of young Bulgarian art in US. Participating artists were, Nedko Solakov, Lucho Boiadjiev, Albena Mijailova and Cvetan Krastev among others. This art show became lately an important start point for this young Bulgarian artists of post-communist art generation to mainstream art galleries in America and Europe. In Late 90s he took part of many group exhibitions organized by Open Society Foundation, such as Ars Ex Natio, N- forms, End of Quotation and others. In 1997 Art News Magazine about Ars Ex Natio exhibition, presented for first time the artist to international art audience. After year 2000 he has been part of art events in Bulgaria, Greece, Spain, Turkey, Holland. His art could be considered representative for the post-communist era in Eastern Europe.

Since 2010 he lives and works in Florida. In Windermere he created Parnassus Art School. The artist maintains close relations with Florida's artists, art galleries and art schools.
