Who was Sir Thomas Wheate, 1st Baronet?

Sir Thomas Wheate, 1st Baronet was an English politician who was the Member of Parliament for Woodstock from 1690 to 1695 and from 1708 to 1721.

He was the only son of Thomas Wheate of Glympton Park, near Woodstock and succeeded his father in 1668, inheriting Glympton Park.

He was elected Member of Parliament for Woodstock in 1690, 1708 and 1714. He was appointed High Sheriff of Oxfordshire for 1696 and created a baronet the same year. He served as Storekeeper of the Ordnance from 1717 until his death in 1721.

He was buried at Glympton, Oxfordshire as was his wife, Anne Sawbridge. He was succeeded by his eldest son Thomas Wheate.
