Who was Syed Mir Hassan?
Shams al-’Ulama’ Syed Mir Hassan was a scholar of the Qur'an, Hadith, Sufism, and the Arabic language. He was a professor of Arabic at Scotch Mission College in Sialkot. He was awarded the title of Shams al-’Ulama’ by the British Crown. He was the famous teacher of Sir Muhammad Iqbal, Faiz Ahmad Faiz and an uncle of Syed Nazeer Niazi, the son of his brother Syed Abdul Ghani. Both brothers were great admirers of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan.
