Who is Tenshōin?
Tenshōin, also known as Atsuko, was the wife of Tokugawa Iesada, the 13th Shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate of Japan.
Her father Shimazu Tadatake belonged to the Imaizumi Shimazu family of the Shimazu clan in Satsuma.
She was originally named Katsu by her parents. When she was adopted by Shimazu Nariakira, her name was changed to Atsuko, and later changed to Fujiwara no Sumiko when she was adopted by Konoe Tadahiro.
