Who is Wendy Sharpe?
Wendy Sharpe is an Australian artist. Winner of the Sulman Prize in 1986 with Black Sun - Morning and Night and the Archibald Prize in 1996 with Self Portrait - as Diana of Erskineville, Sharpe was awarded the Portia Geach Memorial Prize twice in 1995 and 2003. During her extensive career, Sharpe has been awarded a number of Scholarships and overseas residencies including the Martin Bequest Travelling Scholarship and a residency at the Australian Embassy Residence in Cairo, Egypt.
She was one of Australia's official war artists sent to East Timor in 1999 and in 2012 she was commissioned to join the centenary voyage to Antarctica by the Mawson’s Hut Foundation as an artist in residence.
