Who is Chen Guangbiao?

Chen Guangbiao is a Chinese recycling entrepreneur and philanthropist. He is the founder and chairman of Jiangsu Huangpu Renewable Resources Limited Company, which is estimated to be worth US $810 million by the wealth research firm Hurun Report, although Forbes estimates his wealth at $400 million.

Chen became well known in China for personally rescuing 13 people and donating millions to the relief effort in the aftermath of the 2008 Sichuan earthquake, and Forbes chose him as one of the 48 leading philanthropists of the Asia Pacific Region in both 2008 and 2009. Chen is also known for his penchant for publicity stunts. He made international headlines with his high-profile but unsuccessful attempt to buy The New York Times in January 2014.
